We are proud of our expertise, standards and knowledge, which are recognised by our longstanding accreditations.
All our breeding and rearing farms, feed mill, production sites and hatchery are Quality British Turkey (QBT) and Assured Food Standards (Red Tractor) certified. The logo shown on packaging is a guarantee to consumers that they are buying turkey that meets the high standards of food safety, traceability and bird welfare.
The agriculture and welfare standards set out under the QBT and Red Tractor assurance scheme are demonstrable and measurable. We have undergone rigorous inspection by an independent auditing body, SAI Global (European Food Safety Inspection Service), against more than 200 criteria including issues of food safety, hygiene and traceability of production methods.
The QBT assurance scheme is externally accredited to ISO 45001 standards. It is also the only fully accredited turkey standard that meets the UK Accreditation Scheme and EU standards.
Our Feed Mill at Bawsey, in Norfolk, is accredited by UFAS. This scheme aims to protect human and animal health by ensuring safe and hygienic practices in manufacture and distribution of animal feeding stuffs based on HACCP principles. Any additional feed we source comes from UFAS accredited mills only.
UFAS is a voluntary scheme developed, owned and implemented by the Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC). It verifies that our food mill, where over 90% of our turkey feed is milled and prepared, meets the obligations under the appropriate feed safety related legislation and codes of practice in maintaining safety in the feed and food chain.
We rear free-range turkeys for Christmas under the Freedom Food Scheme for a number of UK major retailers.
Freedom Food is the RSPCA's higher welfare farm assurance and food labelling scheme. Our relevant hatchery, farms and manufacturing sites are therefore approved by Freedom Food to RSPCA welfare standards for this seasonal period.
All our factories have been awarded Grade A* by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standard for production, packaging, storage and distribution of safe food and consumer products.
The BRC Global Standards are a set of four industry-leading technical standards to be met by an organisation to enable the production, packaging, storage and distribution of safe food and consumer products.
We have achieved Grade A certification to the Global Standard. This reassures retailers and branded manufacturers of our capability and competence as a supplier, while also reducing the need for retailers and manufacturers to carry out their own audits. The standard has been raised by five new versions and version six is under development.
We are ISO 14001 accredited across all of our food preparation sites in Norfolk and Suffolk and are the only UK poultry producers, and one of the few meat producers, to hold this award. We have held this accreditation for over 7 years
We meet the British Standard for management of environmental risks and that we are continually improving our Environmental Management System and monitoring our environmental performance in terms of water, energy use and waste production.
Our farms and production sites are inspected by SAI GLOBAL (European Food Safety Inspection Service), one of the leading independent global inspection and certification expert groups who ensure only the highest standards across all operations are maintained. This is to gain on-going approval of the British Retail Consortium Global Standard.
